Rivian debuts the handgun -free highway technology, and is now free

A Rivian software update released today adds a new self-direction system for highways that promises to make long discs and travel more enjoyable.

The Enhanced Highway Assist is free for now, but “below the line, it will be part of the Rivian+autonomy platform, our future reconciliation service,” Rivian tells us. It only works in Gen 2 Rivian R1T and R1S, which came out in June 2024 and operate updated systems of updated equipment and software.

Drivers can remove their hands from the wheel “for prolonged periods of time” to 135,000 miles of compatible highways. But they still have to pay attention, which is typical of similar level autonomous steering systems 2 from Tesla, Ford, GM and others. An infrared camera embedded in the rear mirror ensures that the driver is paying attention.

“The system controls the direction, acceleration and braking to make a less stressful and more comfortable experience,” Rivian says.

The drivers place the vehicle in self-driving mode by pulling the gear stalk. It runs an internal system that includes 11 cameras and five radar, a on -board calculation module and Rivian -trained machinery learning models. The system will keep training as more people use it, “possible by the perception of teaching onboard machinery in addition to HD maps, which will expand our skills over time,” Rivian says.

“This is just the beginning of what we will see with this set of growing features we will start to see expanding,” CEO RJ Scaringe says in the video below. The company is planning a “dramatic expansion planned next year, including off -road.”

The EV manufacturer has made large investments in his software stack, and is planning to allow Volkswagen and Scout supported by VW to use it as part of a joint venture.

If drivers forget to close the loading port door, they can make it remotely through a button on the Rivian app. Leaders can also change their wheel type in the settings menu to get a more accurate interval rating.

Some major performance updates also went out, but they only apply to certain vehicle configurations. A new way of rally for two -motor vehicle performance “Gives The raised response of drowning and the direction of Crisper on almost any terrain, including ice, mud, dirt or asphalt. “

He makes the vehicles “immediately faster, sporty and more powerful,” Rivian says, though her vehicles are already all those things. Brings an additional power 665 horses and 829 lb. -ft. torque, and introduces three new ways of car-sport, rally and soft sand-except for the ways of all purposes, the whole-terrain and the snow.
